To assist with infield decision making, our surveyors at Utility Mapping are able to provide an innovative solution using an augmented reality (AR) application called Augview. Augview projects utility data in real-time with point of view (POV) imagery by combining position, orientation and attitude information to provide the operator with an augmented reality view of the subsurface environment.
Augview works by accessing utility data managed by cloud or web server enabled GIS in real-time. The utility data can be provided by existing customer supplied databases, or alternatively mapped and surveyed by Utility Mapping to produce a Quality Level A (QL-A) or B (QL-B) model.
In augmented reality mode, Augview projects the utility data as a 3D subsurface model representing utilities, chambers and manholes. We can also assist with ongoing utility data management and data hosting in a secure cloud environment to ensure that all utility data is updated and made available to the client.
Augview can be implemented on most GNSS enabled Apple, Android and Microsoft devices (handheld and tablets). This type of augmented reality technology will significantly reduce utility strikes and make your site personnel aware of what is present underground.
